Marja Härmänmaa

I am Dr. Marja Härmänmaa, Adjunct Professor of Modern Italian literature at the University of Turku (Finland), School of Languages and Translation Studies.
I am both a translator and copy editor. I translate into Finnish from English, French and Italian. In addition to my working languages, I am also fluent to varying degrees in German, Spanish and Swedish, and I know the basics of Russian.
I graduated from the University of Turku in 1993 with major in Italian language and culture and a first minor in French language and culture. I completed my PhD degree in Italian philology at the University of Helsinki (Finland) in 2000. Because of my studies and research, I have lived a number of years in Italy, and have spent several long and short periods of time in France, the USA and the UK.

I have decades of experience in translation work. I am specialized in subtitling, and my special passion is subtitling feature movies.
In addition, I translate legal, business, political and social texts, especially for the EU, an activity that I currently do on a daily basis. Last but not least, I translate literature and texts related to culture.

I am familiar with different CAT tools, such as Memsource or MemoQ. My preferred tool is Trados Studio 2021.

I am happy to copy edit Finnish texts. The wording is crucial in every kind of communication; fluent and accurate wording gives an impression of a reliable and professional company. I do my copy editing with complete respect for the original concept of the text, then return the project in an even more presentable form!

The rates apply to the length of the original text. One page equals 1560 characters with spaces, and one line is 60 characters. Rates will be established according to the language pair and how demanding and complicated the text is, as well as by schedule and formatting requirements of the translation.
In all prices will be included the VAT of 24 %. The quotation is free and non-binding.
